A total of twenty honor graduates from the program in 2017
Four more UCPB-CIIF scholars graduated with honors this month, one earning magna cum laude, while three others finish cum laude.
Graduating magna cum laude from Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) in Lucban, Quezon is Jahmaie Arban, with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Out of 2,291 SLSU graduates, she is 1 of 7 with
the academic honor.
A valedictorian in high school, it’s been Arban’s ambition to become a teacher like her mother, and a good role model for her 2 siblings. Her father is a coconut farm worker.
Down south in Central Mindanao University in Maramag, Bukidnon, three UCPB-CIIF scholars have graduated cum laude: Cristian Omilo, Bachelor of Science in Agriculture; Recil Marie Montejo, Bachelor in Secondary Education; and Jucel Joy Bulagsac, Bachelor in Secondary Education.
The 4 fresh graduates bring this year’s UCPB-CIIF Scholarship Program honor count to a proud 20. From its launch in 2003, the program has produced 2 summa cum laude, 9 magna cum laude, and 114 cum laude graduates – 125 honor graduates in all.
The program is funded by UCPB, UCPB Savings Bank, COCOLIFE, UCPB General Insurance, CIIF-Oil Mills Group, COCOCHEM, UCPB Leasing and Finance, UCPB Securities, and UCPB-CIIF Finance and Development Corp.
The program has helped 2,700 children of coconut farmers from 63 coconut provinces. This year, 196 more will be part of the program. About 1,653 of the scholars have graduated. Eighty more will graduate within the year.
Through the program, 8 in 10 UCPB-CIIF graduates earn well enough to help with their families’ daily needs and with the education of their siblings.
