UCPB General Insurance Company, Inc. (UCPB GEN) celebrated an early Christmas with a unique outreach activity. Partnering with Tahanang Walang Hagdanan, Inc. (TWH), UCPB GEN hosted this year’s Paralympics 2016 – a sports fest conducted to promote the athletic spirit among persons with disability (PWDs), held at the TWH Center in Cainta, Rizal last Sept. 17.

TWH is an organization that provides assistance to PWDs by giving them sustainable livelihood. Their mission is to strengthen the social enterprise through viable economic activities without compromising the core thrust of empowering persons with disability and care for the environment. This year, the UCPB GEN Employee Relations Committee 2016 organized and facilitated the games that included badminton, chess, and basketball. All games were played in the wheelchair. Winners for every game category received a trophy and cash prize while non-winners received consolation prizes.

Participants from UCPB GEN were also given the chance to experience playing together with the TWH basketball players. The latter are the Philippines’ official representatives in different basketball competitions for PWDs internationally.

“Masaya, masakit at nakakamangha. Kakaibang experience ‘yun. Mas mukha pa silang may paa kaysa sa amin,” Josh Roque expressed who recorded a number of points for his team.

UCPB GEN provided meals during event day, and donated grocery items and hygiene kits to TWH as well.

“May this Paralympics bring a new perspective to everyone especially to my colleagues from UCPB GEN that the human spirit knows no limits. We have witnessed that this Paralympics has the ability and capacity to transform communities, to inspire, to encourage life of an individual,” Arnold Alvarez, chairman of ERC 2016, stated.
